( NOTE: Hamachi presently only works on windows 2000, XP or higher, otherwise you must play online using Kali )

. What Is Hamachi ?

Hamachi is a free and revolutionary networking technology, but for the purposes of this howto, Hamachi is simply a new and better way to play dark reign online and a far superior alternative to Kali as far as game connectivity and ease of use

How to set up Hamachi for DUC Dark Reign

Before we proceed i'd like you to know that these setup instructions look like allot, but that's only because I've listed every single step and click to avoid confusion, also many of the steps are essentially the same things over and over again so once you've done the first few you'll fly through the rest

another thing to remember is this all only has to be done once, from then on its as simple as a couple of clicks and your playing dark reign online!

 

If you have hamachi installed already, uninstall it before proceeding, we've found that strange things happen when you install hamachi before installing the required networking protocols

 

1.  go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

then with the right mouse button click on either local area connection or dial up modem connection then click Properties from the submenu

you should see a dialog that looks something like the following picture, Don't close it, you'll need it open for many procedures to follow

2. Scroll down the list and see if you have Client for Microsoft Networks and make your selection below

3. Click Install

4. Click Client then click add

5. Select Client for Microsoft Networks then click Ok.

6. Scroll down the list and see if you have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and make your selection below

7. Click Install

8.Click Service then click add

9. Select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks then click Ok

10. Scroll down the list and see if you have NetBEUI Protocol and make your selection below

11. Please choose which operating system is running on your computer

• I have Windows 2000
• I have Windows XP

 

12.. Download the NetBEUI Protocol from here

Unzip the file and double click Install

If you've closed out of  Network Connection Properties go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

then with the right mouse button click on either local area connection or dial up modem connection then click Properties from the submenu

13. Click Install

14. Click Protocol then click add

15. Select NetBEUI then click Ok

19. Select NWLink NetBIOS then click Ok

21. Click Install

22. Click Protocol then click add

23. Select NWLink IPX/SPX NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol then click Ok

 

24. Ok, now you can finally close this box, click Ok,  if it asks you to reboot, bookmark this page and go ahead and reboot the computer, then come back here and continue, don't worry the hard parts are done now  8-)

26. Install Hamachi by double clicking the file you downloaded

The Hamachi installer will instruct you to reboot the computer, bookmark this page and reboot (yes you actually have to reboot or the earth as we know it will spontaneously implode)

27. Run Hamachi by double clicking on its icon, it looks like this

Hamachi will give you an orientation of the basic functions of the program, you can either follow the instructions given and perform the orientation or i believe you can skip it.

28.  go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

then with the right mouse button click on Hamachi then click Properties from the submenu

 

29. Double Click on NWLink IPX/SPX NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol

30. Make sure the Internal network number and Network number are eight zeros then Change the Frame Type to 802.2 and click Ok

31. now, you have to go into your LAN or Local Area Connection again

go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

then with the right mouse button click on either local area connection or LAN then click Properties from the submenu

 

32. Uncheck NWLink IPX/SPX NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol

33. Do the same thing on all other network connections you have EXCEPT for Hamanchi (hamanchi stays checked)

 

34. Ok, now go back to the hamachi program and do the following..

click the "gear" button, then click Preferences..

 

35. Click the System button, then checkmark the "magic option"  then click Ok   if you have a router write down the magic number, you will need it later for port forwarding

36. If you have a router, select the brand and model of your router and follow the instructions on port forwarding for hamanchi

37. Either disable all firewalls or set the firewall to allow hamachi to access its magic port (12975) by default and allow full web access

 

38. open Hamachi, and click the "power" button to activate it, then click the "triangle" button and select create new network,

(joining an existing network is the same except you select join existing network)

        

type the network name and the password that is required for people to join your network and click create

 

give your friends the network name and password so they can join your network

once your friends have joined your network, there hamachi name will appear on the hamachi window

one by one, double click everybody's name on your network to check for a responsive ping, this step verify's that the network is functioning properly.

if the ping says Request Timed Out, there is a problem with the network and online play will not work, make sure all firewalls are disabled, routers are portforwarded and double check the instructions on this page, starting at step 1

if the ping says something like Reply from 209.191.93.52: bytes=32 time=94ms TTL=52
the network between you and the user you pinged is functioning properly, and you should be ready to play dark reign online!

ps. the ping window will ping forever so you must close it manually with the x,

Launching the game

once everybody is networked in hamanchi, launch DUC dark reign and select multiplayer, then select Local Area Network (IPX), from there you can create or join games which everybody on your hamachi network can join or host
